Circle of Friends Blog Hop for Annika

Welcome to the Circle of Friends Blog Hop. If you have arrived from Patricia Garcia's blog, you are in the right place, if not you may want to start at Crystal's blog so you don't miss anything along the way.

Our Circle of Friends hop is to show our dear friend Annika Ryan that her Whimsy Family is here for her during this difficult time. Everyone needs a circle of friends, and sometimes, during those hard moments, you need to be placed in the center of that circle and be given a big group hug. Though we may be miles away, our hearts are with her along with our support.

Today we all have made her a creation to show her how much we care. Please hop along with us to support our wonderful teammate and friend, Annika.

Here is the creation I made for my dear friend and dt sister.......

If you know Annika and would like to make a creation for her, please go to the end of the hop (Denise's Blog) and link a card, then email Crystal at crystalkbk30@gmail.com to privately give you her address.

This hop will end on February 5, noon Eastern time so you have enough time to create a card for friend!!

Thanks so much for hopping along with us today!!! Your next stop on the hop is Domi.

Music Saves My Soul

The Carolina Chocolate Drops are relatively new but they received a lot of attention in 2010. They played the AMA's and The Americana Music Association Awards and were huge hits at Bonnaroo.

I was disappointed that I couldn't find a better video of this song. The sound quality isn't too bad for a live performance recording but I don't care for the extended ending. Be sure to listen to the lyrics - I love them

If you want to play along and share a song, be sure to link up on Marcea's blog.

Whimsy Stamps - Party Snail

I never seem to have enough birthday cards on hand, especially cards that can be given to boys. I thought this image would be perfect.

As you can see, I tried my hand at real sewing on a card again. I think it is a lot better than my first card but I still need more practice. Since I can't draw a straight line or put two pieces of paper together straight, I don't why I though I would be able to sew straight. That just adds character, right? Also, thank you to every one that gave me tips & tricks. My thread did not break once while sewing on this card.

Have a great day!

Supplies:
  • Stamps: Party Snail by Crissy's Digis on Whimsy Stamps, Handwritten Notes by PaperTrey
  • Inks: Close To My Heart Chocolate ink
  • Papers & CS: PaperTrey dark chocolate & white CS, Echo Park Walk in the Park DP, misc. orange CS from Taylored Expressions

Sentimental Sundays Color Challenge

It's Sunday again and that means it's time for the Sentimental Sundays challenge. This week we are challenging you with a color challenge (see the color sample further down this email). Don't forget to include a sentiment.

I finally bought a small sewing machine so I can try my hand at actual sewing on a card. (All sewing on my cards up to this point has been faux.) This is my first attempt. It looks a little rough but I thought it was okay on a card for a boy. If you have any tips for sewing on a card, especially on how to keep your thread from snapping, please share it in comments. I need your help! Even with the crazy stitching, I still like the way this turned out. These dinosaurs make me smile.

Here are the colors we are challenging you to use. You do not need to use Stampin' Up product, just use similar colors (like I did).I based my card on the Sweet Stop Sketch #91 but the challenge ended before I could get my card posted.

Thank you for stopping by! Be sure to pop by the Sentimental Sundays blog to see what the rest of the DT created. Downloaded the sentiment freebie from Ann from Raindrop Echo Designs while you are there. Don't forget to enter the challenge. We love looking at your entries.

Supplies:

  • Stamps: Rex & Bronty Know How to Party & free sentiment from Pink Cat Studios
  • Papers & CS: PaperTrey white cs, Georgia Pacific white CS, Stampin' Up Handsome Hunter CS, October Afternoon Campfire & Night Light DP
  • Inks: None
  • Tools: Sewing machine, EK Sucess edge punch, Big Shot, Provo Craft Seeing Spots & Mesh Texture embossing folders, PaperTrey XL rickrack border, Spellbinders Nestabilities

Meljen's Designs - Pink and Red color challenge

It's been a crazy couple of weeks and with this cold weather I feel like curling up and hibernating. Or eating some chocolate. Or both....

To help break myself out of the winter blues, I decided to make a funny card which I can use to cheer up a friend too. I followed the Meljen's Designs challenge for the week which is a color challenge of pink and red. I also used one of the newly released Meljen's Designs images and broke in to some DP that I have been hoarding. I love this pretty, glittery paper from Stampin' Up. I guess it doesn't make sense to buy it and not use it. Right? Right? (I need some positive re-inforcement here.)

All right, I know you are saying "get on with it already".... So here is my sassy card.

Ready to see the inside? Wait for it.....

Okay, what do you think? Did you at least crack a smile? If so, mission accomplished.
Here is a peek at the entire new release. Think of all the cute Valentine's day cards you could make with these.

Thank you for stopping by! Be sure to join the Meljen's Designs Pink & Red color challenge. We want to see what you can create with this color combo. Remember you don't have to use a Meljen's image, although we love it if you do.

Supplies:
  • Images: Little Brassiere from Meljens Designs (on Whimsy Stamps)
  • Papers & CS: PaperTrey white CS, Georgia Pacific CS, Stampin' Up Real Red CS & Sending Love DP
  • Inks: None
  • Tools: Big Shot, Spellbinders Nestabilities, Copic Markers
  • Embellishments: Paper Studio pearls, Studio G red glitter glue, misc. ribbon
  • Other: Computer generated sentiment

Lindsay's Stamp Stuff - Love Notes

Valentine's Day is coming! I was "feeling the love" this weekend and created my first Valentines card of the year.

Although it is not a typical Valentines card, I really love the way it turned out. The sentiment was computer generated using the Veteran Typewritter font (a freebie). I like creating my own sentiments because you can type in any sentiment you want.

Stop by to visit the rest of the DT's blog. I know they have some wonderful projects for you to look at. Lindsay will have her weekly freebie on her blog.

Whimsy Stamps - Stars

Yesterday (Monday) was the second time ever that I had the day off work for MLK day. My husband had to work. My daughter not only had a full day of school, she had play rehearsal until 4:15. I was looking forward to a day of quiet to myself. Things didn't work out quite how I had planned but I still got some time to myself. I worked out in the morning, picked up a Starbucks mocha, got home to find my husband there. What??? (Long story that I won't go into here...) Any how, he left, I took a shower, sat down at my computer to check email and the phone rang. Play rehearsals were canceled because of the snow. Oh well.... I still was able to get one card completed in the time I had left to myself.

I used PhotoShop to change the color of the sentiment to blue (from black) in order to better match the DP I planned to use. Since I couldn't find any CS the right color in my stash, I made my own. I cut white paper to the correct size and then use a Copic marker along the edge of the paper to make a custom, colored mat. The last little trick I used on my card is a new (for me) faux stitching technique. I know I must have seen this tip some where, but I don't remember where or when. I don't think I am clever enough to think of this myself. Any how, I used a tracing wheel to make the "holes" and then a marker to connect them. Instant stitching!

Enough chit chat for today. Thank you for stopping by!

Supplies:
  • Stamps: Amongst the Stars by Raindrop Echo Designs on Whimsy Stamps
  • Papers & CS: PaperTrey kraft & dark chocolate CS, October Afternoon Campfire & misc. OA scraps

Music Saves My Soul Saturday (on Sunday)

I am late this week. We had a funeral to go to yesterday and I was just too tired to try to post when I got home.

I was listening to my iPod earlier today while crafting and this song came up on my playlist. Since it is one of my favorite Natalie Merchant songs, I thought would share it this week.

If you would like to share a song with us, link up on Marcea's blog.

Thanks for stopping by.

Just for fun

My friend, Scrap It Girl, is offering this candy. Ends 1-26-11. Check it out on her blog HERE

Now check out this blog hop... I'm not participating because I don't have a crafting space yet but I am following the hop hoping to get some great ideas. (We are working on setting up a craft room for me but I am looking for some good storage solutions before we proceed any further.) So here is the link to the hop hosted by Bella B Designs.

Whimsy Stamps - Smile

Any reason is a good reason to smile! So true. Especially with the cold, dark winter days of January. So I broke out my brand new paper pack and this cute sentiment from Ann of Raindrop Echo Designs to make a card to hopefully put a smile on some one's face.

Of course I had to paper piece the banner, because I love paper piecing. The twine is actually from a bakery box. It may not be as cute as some of the multi-colored baker's twine you can purchase, but I love using recycled items.
Here is a look at the entire Happy Things Pennants digi stamp set.

Here in south-eastern Wisconsin, we finally got some snow and it looked beautiful! I thought some of my followers from warmer climates might like to see the snow. Here are some of the visitors we had while it snowed. (Watching the birds at my bird feeders is another thing that makes me smile.)

.

Cardinals in the pear tree outside my office window.

A Downy Woodpecker that just left the feeders.

Purple finches or house finches? I can't ever remember which they are.

Wait a minute! This isn't a bird. It was warm enough that this opossum came out to get a snack. Honestly, this opossum does not make me smile. 'possums give me the heeby-geebies. My DD thinks they are cute. I think 9 year old girls think anything with fur are cute.

Thank you for stopping by today! Have a great day!

I hope you will join us in the "Anything with Wings" challenge at the Sentimental Sundays challenge blog. Be sure to download your free sentiments from Ann of Raindrop Echo Designs.
Enjoy the rest of your week end! Thank you for stopping by!

Meljen's Designs Challenge #40 - Make It MOVE!

I like to move it, move it! That song has been stuck in my head for the last few days. I'm totally blaming it on the new Meljen's Designs challenge, "Make it MOVE!".

For this challenge I decided to make a roller card using the new Meljen's Designs image "Loving Ewe". Good thing I didn't make a shaker card because I probably would have had KC and the Sunshine Band stuck in my head.

Here is a look at all the new digis which are available in the Whimsy Stamps store.

I hope you will join in the "Make it MOVE!" challenge on the Meljen's Designs blog. You can join making roller, shaker, slider, pop up, spinner, waterfall, or wiper cards just to name a few. See the Meljen's Designs blog for all the details.

Don't forget about the Whimsy Stamps blog hop. Several of the designers used images from this Meljen's Designs release. You can find the details about the hop on my post HERE.

Whimsy New Digi Release Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Whimsy Stamps January digi release blog hop!!!! This is my first post as a Whimsy Stamps digi design team member. I am so excited!

On the hop today, we have lots of new images created by Crissy, Ann, and Melissa to share with you. We also have some beautifully pre-colored images, designed by Melissa Jenkins of Meljen's Designs, which are great for making quick cards. Each file is JPG at 300dpi for high print quality. You can resize, flip, or rotate to fit your own project.

If you have arrived here from Anneke's beautiful blog then you are in the right place. If you were not following along with the hop, why not join in the fun by starting at the beginning of the hop, which is Debbie’s blog?

Today I used Crissy Armstrong's newly released image, Dance of Love. Isn't she gorgeous?

To find this image along with all of the new release, please visit the Whimsy Stamps store.

Be sure to leave comments as you hop. SIX mystery DT Members will be choosing a winner from the comments left on their hop posts! These winners will each win a Whimsy Stamps digi image of their choice.

The Grand Prize winner of the hop will be chosen from the very last stop, Denise’s blog, and will receive 5 new digital stamps of their choice from Whimsy Stamps. They will also get a chance to use those new digital images as a guest designer for Whimsy for the entire month of January.

The hop will run until 12 noon EST, Thursday, January 13th, when the winner will be announced on the Whimsy Inspirations blog.

Your next stop on the hop is Stephanne's blog. I know she has some lovely eye-candy for you.
