Merry & Bright Gingerbread Boy

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  Did you find any super Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals?    I was pretty good.  I bought a few Christmas gifts on Etsy and managed to stay strong and not take advantage of any of the super deals some of my favorite paper crafting sites were having.   It was soooo hard.   Usually when shopping for Christmas gifts, I end up buying more for myself than any one else.

Instead of shopping, I busied myself in my craft room and made a card using “Gingerbread Boy” from Whimsy and Stars Studio.   For some reason, this little guy always cries out for paper piecing when I use him.   After printing him on DP, I used my Copics to shade him and color in the berries and embellishments.    All the pieces have a bit of distressing with the edge of my scissors and are finished off with some paint.    I added some texture using some of my favorite recycled elements – Starbucks coffee sleeves.   (Have I mentioned how much I love using them?)    The sleeves were perfect to cut out a little tag and punch 3 little stars.

Fun Times

Look Ma!  No stamping!  I made this birthday card for my blogging friend Maria using some of my October Afternoon stash.   I imagine Maria looking something like this when she was younger.  (If you don’t know her, she loves dogs, works as a volunteer at a shelter, and is very involved in animal rescue.)   I didn’t use any stamping on the front of the card, just these cute chipboard pieces.

Give Thanks

With Thanksgiving coming up later this week, I thought I would make one last autumn themed card for the year using my favorite autumn image, Blessed Harvest (digital stamp) by Whimsy and Stars Studio.

2012-11-20 WSS Give Thanks WM

I tried something a little different for me, I colored on kraft paper.  As often as I use kraft paper, I realized that I rarely color on it.   I also stepped outside my comfort zone again and left some white space.    Once I was finished with the card, I decided it looked a bit bare with out a sentiment so I created a rub on in order to add one on.  (You can see my tutorial on how to create a custom rub on here.)

Thank you for stopping by!   Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends!   Thank you for stopping by.

Supplies:

  • Stamps:   Blessed Harvest (digital stamp) by Whimsy and Stars Studio
  • Inks:  Distress Ink Antique Linen
  • Papers:  Papertrey Rustic Cream & Kraft CS, Simple Stories Harvest Lane paper pad
  • Tools:  Sewing machine, Big Shot, Spellbinders Nestabilities (circle),  Die-namics Designer Labels 3, Taylored Expressions Chicken Wire impression plate,  Stampin’Up Photo Corner punch, Copic markers
  • Embellishments:  Burlap
  • Techinque:  Custom rub on  (you can see my tutorial here).  Fonts used are Aparajita and MA Sexy

Happy 11th Birthday

Today is my sweet girl’s birthday!  I can’t believe she is 11 years old today.

About a week ago she told me, “Mom, I can’t wait to see my special card you’re making.”   I’m so happy she appreciates my cards, but man, oh man, now the pressure is on to make a card she will really like.  I hope she will like this one.

Since my crafty mojo has been lacking since I was laid off in September, I had to search my Pinterest files for inspiration.  I found some in this gorgeous card from Anna Marie Nelson.

I wanted to share some pictures of my baby with you.    I don’t have any digital photos from the day she was born but here is one from her 1st birthday.

Twinkling Angel

Happy Tuesday!  I have a new project using “Twinkling Angel” from Whimsy & Stars Studio to share with you.   Isn’t she sweet?

2012-11-13 WSS Twinkling Angel WM

Can you believe how quickly Christmas is coming up?  I actually started my holiday shopping.  I’ve picked up a couple of stocking stuffers, nothing that really shortens my shopping list.    Speaking of Christmas, do you have a favorite album?  I would have to pick either Bing Crosby’s or Andy Williams Christmas albums.   I think I love them so much because they remind of Christmas as a kid.  My mom would always play these on the record player.     Are you looking forward to any new albums coming out this year?

Oh well, enough chatter.  I hope you have a fabulous day!  Thank you for stopping by.

Supplies:

  • Stamps:  Twinkling Angel (digital stamp) from Whimsy & Stars Studio, Tiny Tags II from Papertrey Ink
  • Ink:  Close to My Heart Hollyhock, Distress Inks Antique Linen
  • Papers:  Neenah Crest solar white CS, Papertrey white & kraft CS, My Mind’s Eye 12 Days of Christmas paper pad, Stampin' Up vellum

Sorry!

I’m so sorry that I have to turn Blogger’s word verification on for comments.  I am being bombarded by spam.   I know how frustrating word verification can be – I personally hate it.   I hope you will stick with me while I try to find a better way to manage all the spam.    Thank you!

Like Peas & Carrots

Today is my hubby and I’s 14th wedding anniversary.   This is the card I made for him.

2012-11 Annv card WM

The colors in the photo are slightly darker than real life.  The matting is carob brown, not black as it looks here.    Oh well.

He says all my cards are the same so I tried to change it up a bit with this card.  I think this is pretty CAS for me.  There is NO SEWING and hardly and DP.   Check out all that white space.   I feel the need to fill it, but I showed some restraint.  :)

If you haven’t seen this stamp set, stop by the Sweet ‘n Sassy store to check it out.  It is just the cutest.

Thank you for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Holiday Cheer

Did you have a good weekend?  I was able to spend some time in my craft room on Sunday and made 4 projects!   This is one of the first projects I completed.  I want to make sure that I have a few wine bottle tags on hand for the upcoming the holiday season.    It seems like we end up bringing a bottle of wine to several functions over the holidays and I think they are a cute way to spruce up the bottle a bit.    (If you don’t care for wine, these tags are also really cute on soap or lotion bottles.)
